The Devoted

The day wears on…

We squelch through an endless sea of mud, near-losing our boots several times. At length, we stop to take our day meal.

As we eat, we see a figure walking across the bog: a monk, clad in robes that veil his face, and clutching a symbol around his neck: an empty bowl. We greet him and offer him some of our food. But the monk refuses. He says:

“I do not eat while the sun is in the sky. It is the way of my faith, which ever guides me in my wanderings. You, too, might claim my god’s protection. Will you cast away your victuals, and observe His commandments?”

The Conundrum

The Devoted invites you to claim his god’s protection by taking an oath of fast.

  • Clockwise starting with the Reader, travellers may take it in turns to choose whether to take the oath.
