The Drowned
The day wears on…
We cross an accursed marsh. This is dangerous land, its ground pockmarked with sinkholes, its pools littered with the bones of travellers before. If we are not careful, ours will join them.
A faint shout drifts across the water. We see that, out in the lake’s centre, a man thrashes against the flood’s grasp. He is undoubtedly drowning. But the lake is deep and choked with weeds, its grip deadly.
If we swim out there, there is no guarantee we will not share his fate. But if we do nothing, the man will surely perish.
The Conundrum
Will you risk the swim into the lake to save the Drowned?
The travellers may first discuss between themselves.
Then, clockwise starting with the Reader, each traveller may take it in turns to choose whether to SWIM INTO THE LAKE, or PASS BY.
