The Forgotten
The day wears on…
The way is slow going. Soon we find ourselves passing through a maze of boulders. Great stones jut from the earth to the sky. Among them, we sight a shrine carved into the bare rock: a smiling, horned face, poised above an altar. Below, three small statues depict faceless wood spirits — servants of this god, or perhaps its children?
At the altar’s base, we read an inscription:
“Honour the Wood’s Lord, the Warden of the Wild, who is also called Jymbler and Keeper of the Green.”
It is a shrine to the Lord of the Wood Himself. Fearful, we kneel in deference before walking on. But hours pass, and still the maze forces our way. Three times we pass the shrine again before we understand: Its power keeps us here, trapped in this stone labyrinth. Perhaps if we make an offering to the altar, It will permit us to pass…
The Conundrum
We must provide the shrine with a greater offering. Should we offer it PRAYER, GOODS or BLOOD?
Moving clockwise starting with the Reader, travellers take it in turns to make an offering to the shrine: PRAYER, GOODS, BLOOD or NOTHING.
If a traveller holds at least one Blessing, they may choose to offer PRAYER.
If a traveller holds at least one Item, they may choose to offer GOODS.
If a traveller holds at least one Bargain, they may choose to offer BLOOD.
If a traveller holds none of these, they must offer NOTHING.
Once every traveller has made their choice, take the deck. One by one, reveal cards from the top of the deck in order.
