The Lovers
The day wears on…
Of all the terrors of the Elder Wood, the last we expected to encounter was… courtship.
And yet, as we forge a patch of particularly treacherous bog, that is precisely what we see. There, reflected in the mirrored surface of the water, we see two young lovers sat to a romantic dinner table.
"Oh, but we seem to have company!" They giggle up at us, eyes shimmering with the phantom light of their table candle. "But no wonder you look so glum! Travelling as one is no fun. Only travel as two, and delight awaits you."
They reach out their hands to us, welcoming us to their dinner. We realise that they wish for not one but two of us to take their hands.
The Conundrum
The travellers may first discuss between themselves.
Then, clockwise starting with the Reader, each traveller may take it in turns to choose whether to take the Lovers’ hands, or look the other way.
