The Sacrifice

The day wears on…

We set out before dawn. Passing over a ridge, we behold a wonderful vista. But as the sun’s first rays pierce the Gorge, we see something moving up the hillside towards us. It is a young and radiant lamb.

We watch, amused, as the little creature snouts its way through our packs, hopeful for a treat. But our chuckles are silenced when the lamb grows suddenly upwards, transforming. Soon, a creature of towering height stands before us — white of skin and hair, nude from head to toe.

The strange monster gestures to a thick scar across its abdomen. As we stare in wonder, we realise: in another life, this creature was another’s sacrifice.

The Challenge

The party is visited by the spirit of the Sacrifice.

If the party currently bears any Curses, the Sacrifice offers you a chance to remove that blight and appease the offended spirit. Take one Elder Card from among your Curses and place it facedown on top of the Path instead. You will face the spirit’s Gorge encounter tomorrow. Meanwhile, the traveller with the fewest Blessings receives the Sacrifice’s Blessing. If there is a tie, the eldest traveller wins.

If the party bears no Curses, the Sacrifice sees little of itself in you. The party suffers the Curse of the Sacrifice. Take this spirit's card and place it in a designated area on the table so everyone can see it. If this is the party's third Curse, click here.

The sun clears the horizon. In a flash of light, the pale figure is gone.
